Laptop Computers to Outsell Desktops in the Future?

Laptop computers have always sold fewer computers than desktops, but this trend seems set to change in the future.

Laptops have always been more expensive or of lower spec than their desktop counterparts, chiefly due to display considerations and the need to cram everything into a small space whilst making them out of robust components. Higher costs have led to lower demand and the mass-production market has never quite been able to ramp up sufficiently to give laptops a price edge.

However, laptops are set to gain their own edge thanks to the proliferation of Wi-Fi. Now, people can use their laptops in far more locations to the extent that demand is rising significantly and seems set to continue in the foreseeable future. Even though laptop computers may still cost more than desktops, their versality is a big selling point when people can use them for internet access via Wi-Fi connections.

We also hear that Fujitsu is producing a hard drive for laptops with a capacity of 160 gig - this should meet most people's needs.
