Sony Recalls Laptops Some 440,000 Vaio laptop computers are being recalled by Sony because of overheating resulting from a wiring problem. The recall involves laptops in the Vaio TZ series which were manufactured between May 2007 and July 2008. There has been a small number of instances of people suffering minor burns - 5 in Japan, 1 in Italy and 1 in the USA. The laptops were sold in 48 countries including the UK. Sony say that there have been no reported problems in the UK and no product recall is required. However, anyone having a laptop that they believe to be involved in the recall should contact Sony to organise a free inspection and re-work of the wiring if necessary. According to Sony, improperly placed wires near the hinge could wear quickly, causing a short-circuit and overheating. Also a flaw in the circuit board could result in the rim overheating.
