News - January 2008 Laptops - Airline Hand Luggage Rules Relaxed News which will be welcomed by many laptop users - The UK Government has announced, albeit on a case-by-case basis, airports would be allowed some relaxation in the hand luggage rules introduced after foiled terrorist plots in August 2006. Airports will be required to submit proposals detailing how they will deal with relaxation of the "one bag only rule". This could result in some airports needing new scanners, security guards and more security lanes if passengers are to be allowed to carry more than one bag on to planes. Restrictions on the carriage of liquids would remain. The change should hopefully benefit travellers who wish to carry laptop computers as well as luggage. The move will help to bring those UK airports who are able to lift the restrictions into line with major European airports. It may also help the situation for some travellers who, needing to carry their laptop with them on some trips to Europe or long UK journeys, have had to travel by train. Travellers need to be aware however that this could result in some airports and airlines having different hand luggage rules meaning that travellers must check with both airline and airport before travelling and then adhere to whichever rule is the more restrictive.
