Laptop Shoulder?

Writer's Cramp, Housemaid's Knee, Tennis Elbow etc - is "Laptop Shoulder" the latest ailment to be added to this list? Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts think so. They carried out a survey on this subject after staff at their hotels reported that many business travellers checking in complained of pain and discomfort in the neck and shoulder area which they blamed on carrying heavy laptops around in shoulder bags.

Crowne's research suggests that three quarters of people carry laptops in the wrong type of bag with almost two thirds suffering shoulder pain whilst travelling. This can be exacerbated by air travel, driving and bad posture.

Following the research, Crowne have now linked with Diane Hunter MSc BSc (Hons) MCSP, a leading physiotherapy consultant, to provide an exercise guide specifically designed for use by travellers in their hotel room. It also offers hints on ways of avoiding "laptop shoulder". The guide is available in selected Crowne hotels across the UK. If demand justifies it, the guide may eventually be made available for download from the Crowne Hotels website.
