News - March 2007 200,000+ Laptop Computer Batteries Recalled Lenovo, the world's 3rd largest laptop computer maker, is recalling over 200,000 batteries due to a potential overheating and fire risk problem. The batteries are made by Sanyo. This is the second time in 6 months that Lenovo has recalled batteries but the company does not see it as adversely affecting their reputation because other laptop computer makers have had similar problems in recent months. It is not a problem that is unique to Lenovo. The last recall involved Sony batteries in their ThinkPad computers and involved over 500,000 recalls. One of the Sony batteries did catch fire in an incident in Los Angeles. This latest risk arises if the computer is dropped in a certain way that may cause damage to the battery's edge. Owners have been advised to cease using their laptops because of the fire risk.
